DNC Protests - August 14-17, 2000
The North American Anarchist Conference will have little to do with the protests of the Democratic National Convention. We will not spend any conference time planning or organizing protests. The participants are welcome to organize on their own, but the goal of the conference is to look far beyond the week of the DNC, towards building a truly democratic society.
It is not a coincidence that the conference is happening in Los Angeles just before the Democratic National Convention. We have done this for a few reasons:
1. We want to present an alternative vision for our society, beyond the choices of Republocrat and Democrican. The protests at the convention will focus on what is wrong with The System, and we want to present a discussion about moving above and beyond that system.
2. Many activists will be converging in Los Angeles for the protests of the convention. Holding our conference at this time will maximize the amount of people who can attend; they won't have to travel to Los Angeles twice.
3. During the Convention season, Americans become more politically conscious. We are taking this opportunity to spread our ideas to those who might otherwise be uninterested.
